Custom-Made Furniture
A major part of Pamela Whitney’s
interior design business has expanded to include the design and
fabrication of a vast majority of her clients' furniture, and built-ins,
both wood and iron, in Soft Contemporary, and transitional styles such as
Spanish Colonial and Tuscany (see our custom-made hand-benched furniture
pictures in the gallery below).
"Designing and customizing furniture
to fit exact interior spaces -- and be the correct scale -- with our
volume ceilings here in the Desert, is a big plus for my clients,” says
Pamela Whitney of Whitney Designs, LLC. “Just as important is designing
and fabricating patio furniture cushions and trim, to the scale of the
outdoor space, that can also withstand our intense sun and occasional 40
to 50 mph winds.”
Whitney Designs’ furniture is all
hand-benched, custom made of quality, aged hardwoods and veneers. Our
upholstered pieces are eight-way, hand-tied, hardwoods stapled and
dowelled, with down and feather envelopes. Whitney Designs' case goods and
upholstery are equal to that of well-known, high-end designers such as: J.
Robert Scott, Donghia, Brown Jordon, or Nancy Corzine. But Whitney
Designs' price points are much less: equal to mass produced, “middle of
the road” to higher priced pieces featured in big furniture stores.
“I love each and every piece we make.
It’s exciting when a client brings a photograph or magazine tear sheet of
a piece of furniture for us to make, or 'tweaked' a bit
to fit their personal needs or space. My fabricators are some of the best
in the business. One of my favorite things to do is to find an old
antique piece, like a hand carved chair, and copy it exactly for a client
who wanted a special desk chair,” says Pamela Whitney.
Each and every one of our pieces is
hand-made, custom benched. Truly tomorrow’s heirlooms! As the economies
of third world countries improve, these true artisans will become a thing
of the past. As a client recently told her, “Pamela, why would
anyone buy a piece from the furniture store, that everyone else can buy,
when they can get a custom piece, hand-made, from you for roughly the same
price?”
“Its so exciting to be able to
contribute to these true artisans and their families, while offering our
clients hand made, custom, high-end furniture at mass produced prices!”
concludes Pamela Whitney.
