Desert Design
Trends
Interior design trend, on the East end
of the Valley, i.e., Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, and La
Quinta is simple, yet elegant, Soft Contemporary, Tuscany or Spanish
Colonial.
Color is in. Varied
tones in chocolate brown, auburn, gold, aborigine, blues and greens.
Colors parading on surrounding mountains during our magnificent sunsets.
Fabrics with multiple patterns and textures, integrated in like colorways.
Yet, less is more, simple, clean, uncluttered, because…
Comfortable is in.
Fewer sharp edges on furniture, plump upholstered goods, coffee tables you
can put your feet on, and sofas deep enough for two to enjoy an afternoon
nap. Walking from room-to-room, including those outdoors, you are never
jolted, and sense a peaceful, common “thread” of continuity in design and
color throughout.
Our Valley is surrounded by
mountains…a special vortex, creating a relaxing, yet energetic, and some
say, spiritual place. Translated into design this means, few sharp corners
on furniture, rounded edges on upholstered goods, coffee tables you can
put your feet on, and sofas deep and soft enough for two to enjoy a lazy
afternoon nap. Walking from room-to-room you are never jolted, you sense
a common “thread” of your home’s main design and color -- a blending
throughout.
Tuscany or Spanish Colonial design
here is more reflective of the Scottsdale or Santa Fe style, not tribal.
Both incorporate some hand-carved pieces of furniture, warm golds, reds,
blues, browns, terra cotta, Talavera or Italian pottery, iron, travertine
and stone. If you have multiple time-honored treasured antiques, they can
be nicely incorporated into this style.
No matter what design style you choose
for your interiors, seamlessly incorporating a wonderful outdoor living
space, with iron furniture and sun resistant fabrics, (again using your
interior’s same color “thread”), unusual containers filled with perennials
and annual flowers, a good reading lamp, and candles are a must to enjoy
our perfect evenings.
Some of our residents are here to
downsize, others are moving to a larger residence to accommodate their
grown children and grandchildren on holidays. Others may want a golfing
or polo retreat. The design challenge is to create the dream home for
you, simultaneously creating a casual and comfortable atmosphere via your
home’s interior design and furniture and accessories. I simply call it
“casual elegance.”
